About the DCL - Hardware

Readout Hardware: The DCL currently supports the following detector readout electronics.

  1. A Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) engineering model unit CCD Electronics Box (CEB), run by a Sun workstation. This unit is used to verify timing patterns and test for electrical noise on a flight-like system. This CEB is not identical to the WFC3 CEB, but is close enough for preliminary checks. It supports the STIS 1K x 1K CCD by default, but can be reprogrammed to support larger formats.

  2. Two San Diego State University (Bob Leach), commercial CCD readout systems (with local modifications to reduce noise and improve stability), supporting up to 4K x 4K formats.

  3. Two San Diego State University commercial readout systems with IR Labs cryostats supporting 1K x 1K HAWAII-1 and 2K x 2K HAWAII-2 HgCdTe devices.
These systems are slightly different and not all systems support all device types. However, this set of systems supports almost all devices from major manufacturers.
